Definition

What does a robotaxi owner have to pay for to keep a car in service?

Cleaning between passengers, electricity, parking or depot space, tires and brakes, glass, sensor and camera calibration, body damage, incident documentation, and somebody to coordinate all of it. Of those, cleaning is the one that recurs most often and is the one most commonly underestimated, because a vehicle with no driver has nobody to notice the mess while it is happening.

Robotaxi care, defined

Robotaxi care is the recurring operational work that keeps an autonomous passenger vehicle in service: frequent short cabin cleans between passengers, exterior washing, charging, parking or depot space, condition documentation, and the coordination of specialist maintenance such as tires, glass and sensor calibration. It differs from car detailing in frequency and scope. Detailing restores a vehicle occasionally. Robotaxi care maintains one continuously.

Why the driver's absence is the whole difference

In a conventional taxi, the driver is a continuous quality-control system nobody pays for separately. They see the spill land, they notice the bag left behind, they wipe the seat before the next fare and they decide the car needs a wash. Remove the driver and every one of those tasks becomes an explicit, scheduled, costed operation.

That is why the cost profile inverts. A privately owned car gets a deep clean rarely. A driverless vehicle in service needs a short clean constantly, and the economics only work if that short clean is genuinely short. A cabin reset is a maintenance clean of an already-maintained cabin, roughly 10 to 15 minutes of technician work: trash removal, a light vacuum, a touchpoint wipe and spot-cleaned glass. It deliberately excludes stain extraction, excessive debris, smoke and bodily-fluid cleanup, all of which are separately scoped and separately priced.

Keeping that boundary firm is not fine print. It is what allows a repeat clean to cost $29 instead of the $117 to $249 that published detailing menus charge for a much larger job.

Depot care

Depot care is robotaxi care delivered at a fixed service location where the vehicle is also parked and charged, bundling cleaning, reserved parking, charging assistance and owner concierge time into one monthly arrangement per vehicle. It is the most efficient shape when the geography allows it, because travel disappears entirely and the vehicle is already where the work happens.

Where it does not allow it, mobile service exists, and the cost driver there is the stop rather than the vehicle. Five vehicles at one location turn a $35 dispatch into $7 per vehicle per visit, which is why grouped locations are worth more than grouped ownership.

Can one provider cover all of it?

Not by doing all of it directly, and any provider claiming otherwise is either very large or not being straight with you. The realistic shape is to do the recurring, high-frequency work with your own team, and coordinate the specialist work through partners with the fee arrangement stated openly, as a transparent coordination fee or a provider commission, never both quietly.

That is the model Robotaxi Complete is built on: cleaning plans at the core, add-ons around them, and a partner marketplace for everything else.

Pilot pricing, in USD, before tax, and subject to inspection. Base prices assume a lightly soiled passenger vehicle serviced at our location. Larger vehicles, heavy contamination and mobile travel cost more.

Common questions

What does a robotaxi owner actually have to pay for?

Cleaning between passengers, electricity, parking or depot space, tires and brakes, glass, sensor and camera calibration after almost any impact or windscreen replacement, body damage, incident documentation, and somebody to coordinate all of it. Cleaning is the one that recurs most often, which is why it is where a care plan starts.

Why is cleaning the recurring cost rather than an occasional one?

A vehicle with no driver has nobody to notice the spilled coffee, the forgotten bag or the crumbs. Every passenger leaves the cabin slightly worse and nobody is accountable for it in the moment, so the cabin degrades continuously rather than in occasional jumps.

Is robotaxi care the same as car detailing?

No, and the difference is scope and frequency. Detailing is an infrequent, deep restoration of a vehicle's appearance. Robotaxi care is a short, frequent maintenance reset that keeps an already-clean cabin presentable, plus the operational services around it.

What is sensor and camera calibration, and why does it appear on this list?

Autonomous vehicles depend on cameras and sensors whose aim matters. Work that disturbs them, including a windscreen replacement or a minor impact, can require recalibration by an authorized specialist. It is a category a conventional car-care plan has no reason to contain, and a robotaxi care plan must.

Can one provider really cover all of it?

Not by doing all of it directly. The realistic shape is to do the recurring, high-frequency work with your own team, and coordinate the specialist work through partners with the fee arrangement stated openly. That is the model Robotaxi Complete is built on.
